Ceramic Inlays and Onlays in Wolverhampton
Stronger than a filling, kinder than a crown
In short
Inlays and onlays are laboratory-made ceramic restorations bonded into or over a prepared tooth. They restore large cavities more durably than a direct filling while removing less tooth structure than a full crown. Fees are £450 bonded or £620 ceramic per unit.

Key facts
Fees shown are from our published price guide. Your written treatment plan confirms costs before anything begins.
The middle ground
Between a filling and a crown sits a real gap. A very large direct filling flexes under load and can leave the remaining walls of the tooth vulnerable; a crown solves that but requires cutting the whole tooth down.
An inlay sits within the biting surface, an onlay extends over one or more cusps. Both are made in a laboratory and bonded in, giving crown-like strength with far less tooth removal.
Appearance and fit
Ceramic is shade-matched and, being made outside the mouth, achieves an accurate anatomical shape and contact point with the neighbouring tooth — which matters for food packing and gum health as much as for looks.
Common questions
Ceramic Inlays & Onlays: your questions answered
Inlay, onlay or crown — what is the difference?
An inlay fits inside the biting surface, an onlay also covers one or more cusps, and a crown covers the entire tooth. Inlays and onlays preserve more of your natural tooth.
How much do inlays and onlays cost?
£450 per bonded unit and £620 per ceramic unit at Wolverhampton Dental, with 10% off for plan members.
