Key facts

Why fixed braces are still the benchmark
Because the brackets are bonded to the teeth, force is applied constantly and precisely in three dimensions. That gives control over root position, rotation and bite relationships that removable appliances struggle to match.
They also remove compliance from the equation: there is no aligner to forget to wear.
Living with braces
Expect tenderness for a few days after fitting and after each adjustment. Very hard and sticky foods need avoiding, and cleaning takes longer — interdental brushes and careful technique around the brackets matter, because decalcification marks around brackets are permanent.
We will see you regularly through treatment and our hygienist can help you keep everything clean while the appliance is in place.
Common questions
Traditional Fixed Braces: your questions answered
How long will I need fixed braces?
Most comprehensive cases take 12 to 24 months, depending on how far the teeth need to move and whether the bite is being corrected.
Do fixed braces hurt?
There is soreness for a few days after fitting and after each adjustment as the teeth begin to move. It settles, and ordinary painkillers are usually enough.
Can adults have fixed braces?
Yes. Teeth move at any age provided the gums and supporting bone are healthy, which we assess before starting.
