Why the implant system matters
Straumann is one of the most extensively researched implant systems in the world, with long-term clinical data behind it. That matters over a twenty-year horizon: components remain available, and any dentist anywhere can identify and service the system if you move.
Cheaper unbranded implants may be discontinued, leaving future repairs difficult or impossible.
The treatment pathway
Assessment comes first: clinical examination, radiographs including an OPG where indicated, and evaluation of bone volume, gum health and your medical history. Smoking and uncontrolled gum disease both materially affect success rates, and we will be direct about that.
The implant is then placed under local anaesthetic and left to integrate with the bone, usually over three to six months. Once integration is confirmed, the crown, bridge or denture is fitted.
Maintenance
Implants do not decay, but the gum and bone around them can become inflamed and recede — peri-implantitis behaves much like gum disease and is the main cause of late implant failure. Regular hygiene appointments and meticulous cleaning around the implant are not optional.
Common questions
Straumann® Implants: your questions answered
How much do dental implants cost in Wolverhampton?
At Wolverhampton Dental, implant consultation and assessment is £100. Implants start from £1,700 and implant crowns from £1,350. Implants are excluded from the 10% plan member discount.
How long does the whole implant process take?
Usually between three and six months from placement to final crown, allowing time for the implant to integrate with the bone. Cases requiring bone grafting take longer.
Is implant surgery painful?
Placement is carried out under local anaesthetic, so you should feel pressure but not pain. Some soreness and swelling for a few days afterwards is normal and manageable with ordinary pain relief.
How long do dental implants last?
With good oral hygiene and regular maintenance, implants can last decades. The crown on top may need replacing sooner than the implant itself.
