Root Canal Treatment in Wolverhampton

Save the tooth instead of losing it

In short

Root canal treatment removes infected or dying pulp from inside a tooth, disinfects the canals and seals them, allowing you to keep a tooth that would otherwise need extracting. Fees at Wolverhampton Dental are £450 for anterior teeth and £650 for posterior teeth.

Why teeth need root treatment

Deep decay, a crack or trauma can allow bacteria into the pulp chamber at the centre of the tooth. Once the nerve is infected it will not recover, and the infection spreads into the bone at the root tip, producing an abscess.

The choice at that point is root canal treatment or extraction. Keeping your own tooth, even a treated one, is almost always preferable to a gap.

What the appointment is like

The tooth is numbed and isolated with a rubber dam. The pulp is removed, the canals are cleaned, shaped and disinfected, and then filled and sealed. Some cases are completed in one visit, others in two.

Modern root canal treatment under proper anaesthetic is comparable to having a large filling. The pain people associate with root canals is the infection itself, which the treatment relieves.

Restoring afterwards

A root-treated tooth is more brittle because it has lost internal structure and blood supply. Back teeth in particular usually need a crown afterwards (£450–£620, sometimes with a £220 post and core) to prevent fracture. Budget for this when planning treatment.

For complex cases we can refer you to an endodontist — specialist consultation is £50, with treatment from £800.

Common questions

Root Canal Treatment: your questions answered

Does root canal treatment hurt?

The procedure is carried out under local anaesthetic, so it should not hurt. Most patients report it feels similar to having a large filling. Mild tenderness for a few days afterwards is normal.

How much does a root canal cost in Wolverhampton?

£450 for a front tooth and £650 for a back tooth at Wolverhampton Dental, with 10% off for plan members. A crown afterwards is usually recommended and charged separately.

How long does a root-treated tooth last?

Many last a lifetime, particularly when properly restored with a crown. Success rates are high, though no treatment can be guaranteed.

Is extraction cheaper?

Extraction is £110 simple or £290 surgical, so yes, initially. But replacing the tooth with a bridge or implant costs considerably more than saving it, and leaving a gap has consequences for the neighbouring teeth.
