Key facts

What veneers can and cannot fix
Veneers excel at chipped edges, worn or misshapen teeth, stubborn internal discolouration that will not whiten, small gaps and mild irregularity in position. They are a cosmetic solution to how a tooth looks from the front.
They are not a substitute for orthodontics. Masking significantly crooked teeth with veneers means removing more tooth structure than necessary; straightening first and veneering afterwards is more conservative and usually looks better.
The process
At the first appointment the teeth are prepared, an impression or scan is taken and temporary veneers are placed. The laboratory makes your veneers to the agreed shape and shade, and at the second appointment they are tried in, checked with you and bonded.
Shade is chosen with you in natural light against your face, not from a catalogue.
Looking after them
Veneers are cared for like natural teeth: brushing, flossing and regular hygiene visits. Avoid biting nails, pens or packaging with your front teeth, and if you grind at night a night guard (£110) protects your investment.
Common questions
Veneers: your questions answered
How much do veneers cost in Wolverhampton?
Bonded veneers are £450 per unit and ceramic veneers are £620 per unit at Wolverhampton Dental. Plan members receive 10% off. Most patients treat between four and eight teeth across the smile line.
How long do veneers last?
Well-made and well-maintained veneers commonly last ten years or more, though this depends on your bite, your habits and your gum health. They can chip or debond and will eventually need replacing.
Is having veneers painful?
Preparation is carried out under local anaesthetic, so the appointment itself is not painful. Some short-term sensitivity while temporary veneers are in place is normal.
Can veneers be removed?
The veneer can be removed, but the tooth structure taken away during preparation cannot be replaced — a prepared tooth will always need a veneer or crown afterwards.
