What to do
Four steps when something goes wrong
01
Call us first thing
Emergency slots are released each morning. Phoning at 9am gives you the best chance of being seen the same day.
02
Tell reception what's happening
Pain, swelling, bleeding or a broken tooth — the detail helps us triage and allocate the right length of appointment.
03
Manage the pain meanwhile
Paracetamol or ibuprofen taken as directed on the pack, a cold compress against the cheek, and avoid very hot, cold or sugary food.
04
Come in for diagnosis
The £41 emergency appointment covers examination, x-rays where needed and immediate relief. Definitive treatment is quoted in writing afterwards.
Common questions
Dental emergencies answered
Can I get an emergency dental appointment in Wolverhampton today?
Yes. Call Wolverhampton Dental on 01902 723 400 as early in the day as you can and we will do everything possible to see you the same day. An emergency appointment is £41 and includes examination, diagnosis and any x-rays needed to find the cause.
What counts as a dental emergency?
Severe or worsening toothache, facial swelling, a knocked-out or broken tooth, bleeding that will not stop, a lost crown or filling causing pain, or trauma to the mouth. Facial swelling that affects your eye, breathing or swallowing needs A&E, not a dental practice.
What do I do if a tooth is knocked out?
Hold the tooth by the crown, not the root. If it is dirty, rinse it briefly in milk. Place it back into the socket if you can and bite gently on a clean cloth; if not, store it in milk and call us immediately. Re-implantation is most successful within 30 to 60 minutes.
Who do I call out of hours?
Outside our Monday to Friday, 9am to 5pm hours, call NHS 111 for urgent dental advice, or 999 if there is difficulty breathing or swallowing, or uncontrolled bleeding.
